Faculty from the University of Georgia’s Department of Religion recently presented their research at the XXIII International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR) World Congress, held in Kraków, Poland. The IAHR Congress is one of the most significant international gatherings for scholars of religion, bringing together researchers from around the globe to share their work and engage in cross-cultural dialogue. Dr. Derrick Lemons, Professor and Head of the Department of Religion, presented a paper exploring questions of truth through the theological lens of President Donald Trump’s Faith Advisory Board. His research highlights the intersection of religion and politics, as well as the influence of advisory networks on contemporary religious thought and politics. Dr. Kendall Marchman, Assistant Professor of Religion, presented on Western perspectives on Pure Land Buddhism. His paper examined how this important Buddhist tradition has been interpreted and engaged by scholars and practitioners in Western contexts.
