Thank you for your interest in UGA Graduate Studies in Religion.

In order to be considered for funding, the deadline for fall 2020 admission is January 15, 2020.

We do not review applications after January 30 and we are not able to review incomplete applications.

Student applications are generally reviewed for fall matriculation rather than spring. We admit students for fall semester.

For MA applicants:

  • Please provide all that the Graduate School requires including the official application and fee, GRE scores, transcripts and 3 letters of recommendation. We also require a statement of purpose, and a 10-12 page writing sample that demonstrates academic writing.

For PhD applicants:

  • Please provide all that the Graduate School requires including the official application and fee, GRE scores, transcripts and 3 letters of recommendation.
  • Please submit a Statement of Purpose as well as a 10-15 page writing sample that demonstrates academic writing.
  • In cases where applicants do not have a BA or MA in Religion, students should include a Statement of Justification as to how their academic background in a field clearly related to their proposed area of study in religion qualifies them for entry into PhD level research in religion/religious studies.
  • We currently consider all applications for acceptance at either the PhD or MA level.
